Huiwei Fly One: A Chinese Tegra Note Is (Almost) Out

While HP Slate 7 Extreme release date set for November something, a sample of Huiwei (汇威Fly One, a Chinese Tegra Note variance was grabbed by someone to check it out today (October 19, 2013). Manufacturer is apparently that something Shenzhenese called "Homecare" I mentioned earlier in my articles about Tegra Note derivatives.

Apparently, tablet has two variants: one basic, with 1 GB RAM, 16 GB eMMC and 1280x800 screen, and one advanced Fly One (must be called Fly Two, I guess)) sporting 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB eMMC and more decent 1920x1080 screen. Both 7-inchers are powered by similarly clocked (2.0 GHz) Tegra 4 chips:

It's too early to know how good or bad this Tegra Note fares against Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in  scribbling/drawing department. For whatever reason, this tester choose to try a chisel stylus for his/her video. However, he/she holds it kinda strange, so there's not much difference in contact surface with the tablet's "regular" stylus pictured above.

For simple thin lines, the lag seems negligible, and hardly worse than what SGNIII would show. The bigger question is how bad the lag will be with larger, modulated/textured brushes. Talk about the stuff gets in wrong hands first.

Well, at least this demo was not with those almost compulsory Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja demos.

In the same time, some Tegra 4 reviewers call Tegra 4 another flop in mobile gaming. If you ask me, I couldn't care less for its 3D prowess, but as usual, there's Tegra 5 for rescue:

Incidentally, this NVIDIA concentration on Tegra 5 may explain a pretty low introductory price for a Tegra 4 tablet like Tegra Note.

Video of that Chinese guy's doodling with chisel stylus can be found here:

  1. Any info on the price? Newegg.com are selling for $199USD. On Aliexpress they are wanting $238.99 USD, which seems extreme for this seller as since it hasn't left China and is sources directly from Wholesale.

    1. I'd rather not touch this Huiwei, even from Australia. HP Slate 7 Extreme has started to sell the tablet (again, a rebadged Tegra Note) for USD199 from their site at least in US. I kinda cooled down a little for the device: need to wait and see how it will handle AOHDR, Kit-Kat Android, and more serious drawing/painting/handwriting recognition apps. Even with its Touchpad fiasco, HP is the only way. I don't see Huiwei (or EVGA) here.
