HP Slate 7 Extreme: Back In Favourites

While watching the first user reports on their Asus VivoTab Note 8 as possibly the best out of Windows 8.1 8-inchers with a 1.9 mm "sharp" stylus I discovered that several users have found serious irregularities in inking at screen borders and/or corners of AVTN8 Wacom type screen. One sample is here, and there's more similar reports:

For a $299 device it sucks, even if other owners failed to notice these errors. Then, it's not even being sold in US yet. Sure, Asus might be able to correct the problem before the end of March (US proposed release date), but as of now nothing's been done. The second best 8 inch Windows 8.1 tablet would be Dell Venue 8 Pro which "sports" pigtail endings of every stroke with its original stylus. Replacements of these very defective styli are being sent out now, and those who ordered the "new" stylus may just brace themselves and keep waiting till April or May. Then, there's no "official" Y-type USB charging/OTG cable for this Dell, so it sucks for even if it retails $240 or so.

However, for those people who love to tinker with their devices, these Asus and Dell might gain some attractiveness if their faults could be found mendable and after serious discounts/fire sales.

 I never lost all those Nvidia Tegra Notes out of my sight. As I supposed earlier, almost all Tegra Notes are closely based on Nvidia Tegra Note reference design. "Almost" means here that HP doesn't follow a routine calling its Tegra 4 7-incher as "[Something, or other] Tegra Note" but rather like "HP Slate 7 Extreme". Sure, it's extreme in the same price range of $199 compared to other Notes:

 Now this raging presentation is mostly a joke, indeed. Except for the part of casual inking with a distinctly different stylus.

But seriously, there's this Android Police article which proves that not all Tegra Note devices are made equal. Some highlights:

-- tablet back is different, which was actually obvious from the start. What was not obvious is HP's back feels more solid/less squeaky;

-- buttons stick out better;

-- stock plain round stylus tip may feel less radical to some than oval wedge of EVGA Tegra Note (I'd rather have both types though):

-- display looks different: "HP Slate 7 Extreme has a better display than the EVGA model. It should be the same panel, but HP has clearly done some things here to optimize the output – it's brighter, color reproduction is better on all accounts (whites still look slightly dingy, but definitely better than on the TN7), and even text looks darker and crisper. Don't get me wrong here – it's not a mind blowing difference and you still know you're looking at a 720p display on a seven inch screen, but there's definitely a noticeable improvement."

There are more differences, but just these listed above seem to be enough to determine the winner among these Nvidia Notes. Just don't expect the "Extreme" one will get its Android Kit Kat before EVGA. Or Homecare/Huiwei Fly One
