Sony Xperia Z Ultra Available In US

Up until couple of days ago, the prospects of Sony Xperia Z Ultra selling in US were unclear. But on October 15th, Arstechnica has brought the news: Sony Xperia Z Ultra is available at the Sony US store unlocked for $649 and $679 (with LTE). I reviewed this Überphablet back in June, and a tidbit later, a young lady named Erica Griffin has recorded almost an hour long summary of her experiences with the gadget:

It's quite thorough and worth watching in full. I should note that I was somewhat skeptical about that "Super Hard Coat", and sure enough, this young lady was successful to wear off what she calls "oleophobic" top layer from the screen in less than a month. Then, nothing "self-healing" was detected on her Überphablet. Luckily, the ultra precise sensor on her Z Ultra works still.

More or less impartial comparison of Z Ultra to Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is given here:

For me, this comparison is quite unfair: how one can compare a more expensive, undernourished faux-leathered Samsung Unterphablet to Sony Überphablet? No way, LOL!

It's clear that Z Ultra is a strong buy, even if every second reviewer calls it most ridiculous phablet. They just tend to ignore the trend: the flagship phablets of 2014 will have IGZO/Sony Bravia/Triluminos 6.5"...7" screens of 2600,,,2800x1600 resolution fully supportive of sharp passive stylus. They will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 latest processor (8974AB, or later). They might even be covered with sapphire glass and run Ubuntu Touch that Mike Shuttleworth used to dream about.
