Samsung To Start Liquavista Display Production In 2013

[Article was salvaged from drafts]

Slashgear has this news today (that was March, 2012, so not today. But as we talk about 2013, not much has changed for these promises). It's all sweet, even if stemming not from Samsung Korean headquarters proper, but from Samsung LCD Netherlands R & D Center (SNRC)’s Johan Feenstra which is just former Liquavista lab bought by Samsung more than a year ago.
Problems start when one considers that there's no working prototype for claimed second generation of this electrowetting technology. Latest demonstration of it stop in 2010, you can call the (full refresh rate) samples a "first generation". Demo of 9.7" prototype e-reader is limited by just a casual snap:

Of all the scarce demos of electrowetting technology by Liquavista, Slashgear happen to choose the worst one that fails to show anything. The same 2010 prototype was demoed a tidbit better here:

Under direct sunlight, it could be assumed that Liquavista's color rendition is much better than Mirasol's, plus colors, even if in a limited gamut, are cleaner:

The latest appearance of a prototype with a lowered refresh rate (second generation?) was shown almost a year ago:

Contrary to what Liquavista claimed, all this beauty comes with a price: technology was not as simple and straightforward as to start mass production of such displays in 2011 like it was envisioned back then. Now we know it won't happen in 2012 either. Apparently, Samsung Display department has other priorities than compete with Mirasols and Tritons:

Last clip presents a Mirasol display based display that has made into a product already. Did you get your 2nd gen prototype totally samsunged, Liquavista?
