I wrote couple of articles about NVIDIA Tegra Note reference design and its derivatives lately: here and here. It's not like any new developments at NVIDIA popped up today (that is on Sunday, of all dates), it's just an original NVIDIA PR deserves closer attention.
NVIDIA PR states this:
In the next few months, our partners will be bringing Tegra Note to market worldwide with features that speak to local consumers, among them are EVGA and PNY Technologies in North America; EVGA, Oysters and ZOTAC in Europe; Colorful, Shenzhen Homecare Technology and ZOTAC in Asia-Pacific; and XOLO in India. They join other partners, including HP, ASUS, Toshiba, Kobo and Xiaomi, that have already announced Tegra 4-based products.
Well, EVGA and ZOTAC follows the NVIDIA lead and Tegra Note reference design, if just in Europe and Hong Kong for the moment. PNY Technologies, Chinese Colorful Technologies, Indian XOLO and Russian Oysters don't mention the coming tablet anywhere on their sites. Shenzhen Homarecare Tech by its Huiweipad arm shows best NVIDIA Tegra Note reference renderings so far for its so called "Fly 1" slate. (Fly 1 by Huiweipad? I love this Chinglish they use for their products).
While EVGA, ZOTAC and Huiweipad NVIDIA Tegra Notes may show up in October, HP Slate 7 Extreme is promised for November 2013.
Together with Direct Stulus practical uses and limitations for which remain to be tested, these Tegra Notes employ so called NVIDIA® Chimera™ Computational Photography Architecture in its SmugMug’s Camera Awesome app:
While Sony's Exmor RS IMX135 13 MP sensor and Aptina's AR0833 1/3" 8MP mobile imaging sensor are mentioned as supporting this Chimera, a mediocre 5 MP rear camera of Tegra Note doesn't look like the best hardware to employ this potentially exciting set of features:
First always-on HDR photos and videos
First HDR panorama
First persistent tap-to-track technology
First single-flash HDR capture
but we talk about $199 slate here, n'est-ce pas?
For TegraZone gaming support, any other site that reviews Tegra Shield BT gaming controllers are supported, I have not a slightest interest.
Direct Stylusi may include additional chisel and brush tips which were not demoed just yet. That's a pity.
Together with many unanswered questions about Direct Stylus, I seriously doubt that this claim:
Exceptional sound — NVIDIA PureAudio technology offers rich, deep audio — including the widest frequency range in a tablet — through front-facing stereo speakers with a bass-reflex port.will hold water -- especially when trying that "Fly 1 by Huiweipad" in real-life audio tests. HP Slate 7 Extreme may look for me as having better/thicker padding on the back of its case for that "bass-reflex port" than those Tegra Note derivatives which show closer allegiance to reference design on paper/in renderings, but in reality may show up as crappiest and cheapest samples of ordinary "Chinese MID" slate design.
All in all, price tag of circa $200 has apparently excluded a second GB of RAM and a better, Full HD 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 screen that might work with even sharper stylus. But such screens might be reserved for, say, Tegra Note 10/HP Slate 10 Extreme, that is, Tegra 4 10-inchers -- if and when this proposed 7-inch Tegra Note will succeed.
