Today's news came out of blue: HP launches Tegra 4 powered and stylused 7 inch Slate 7 Extreme this November. No pricing was declared, so this tablet may originate outside of NVIDIA-PNY-EVGA $199 price cabal.
But even it will be priced at, say, $249, it's quite small money for decent (not great with its 1280x800 screen, just decent) 7 inch Tegra 4 tablet. In other words, will you buy PNY tablet for $199 or equally specced HP tablet for $249?
Even if this HP Slate 7 Extreme was presented as pre-production sample, it's build like any PNY could only dream about:
For CNET, HP also adds some more detail for its Slate 7 Extreme on top of what was told about reference design:
The Slate 7 Extreme has a 1,280x800-pixel resolution IPS screen and houses a Tegra 4 CPU with 1 GB of RAM. In addition to your choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, it features a microSD card expansion slot."Camera Awesome" is this quite powerful camera addition known to work on iPad before:
When it comes to photography, the Slate 7 Extreme has an edge over the competition thanks to its Camera Awesome integration. It's the first time the SmugMug app will be available on an Android tablet and it features typical photo settings like HDR and panoramic. Tablets aren't known for their camera quality, but the addition of Camera Awesome seems like a promising addition to the Slate Extreme 7's average 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front-facing shooters.
It would be fun to test it on Slate 7 Extreme, sure.
Sylus looks definitely more practical than that makeshift something shown in my previous article on NVIDIA Tegra 4 reference tablet:
Its tip looks dumber than claimed 1.5 mm, but it's already a giant leap from those squishy 8 mm rubbers. Make it more wear-resistant, and you've got a winner.
By a report, palm rejection is built-in, at least in stock scribbling apps. But it didn't stop anybody sending reviewers capable of just mediocre handwriting skills:
For those couldn't care less about any styli, HP launches another Slate that is even "extremer" that Slate 7 Extreme -- Slate 8 Pro:
But it's a different story. Hopefully, a small tipped stylus functionality of Slate 7 Extreme can be back ported to this 8-incher. Just to prove it is worth its possible 3 Franklins price tag. But two Franklins and a Grant can make it an instant hit this holiday season, if you ask me. Another Tegra Note re-brand by EVGA, or PNY, or Zotac for $199 will be even better.
