Samsung Epic 4G Touch (SGSII, SPH-D710) Official Jelly Bean
For whatever reason, Sprint Samsung Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710) didn't get "official" Cyanogen Mod love. Oh well. While there's no lack in "unofficial" CM 10.1, even CM 10.2, AOSP, AOKP builds, official Samsung/Sprint JB builds are known of fighting off/circumventing an "eMMC bug" better than opensource crowd.
So, for the time being my Epic 4G Touch is getting an official Jelly Bean. Best way to do that is using a One-Click utility with one of the JB ROMs available: purely stock, or NODATA (this one keeps your apps and data intact), or NODATA ROOT variety (this one is also pre-rooted). I picked the last one hoping to move fast from original ICS to JB on my Epic 4G Touch. All the know-how and relevant links can be found here.
Well, it was relatively fast procedure, only it didn't pan out as I hoped: it finally took me factory reset to get rid of bad caches and incompatibilities. Re-installed XBMC, side-loaded Adobe Flash Player and Veetle, some online TV and Freetux TV streamers, with MX Player and Spocast to follow. Needed to extinguish that nagging data roaming guard and the whole roaming idea, as I'm not signing to Sprint, no way. My favorite carrier is Google (Voice), so it's Groove IP Lite that I have for my voice dialer & texting over WiFi hotspots around.
Cameras work fine and fast, just didn't check video recorder. But I don't think there will be any trouble. GPS lock is fast and not going anywhere as it was with my Skyrocket and CM 10.1 that couldn't cope with eMMC bug (it's on stock JB now, so everything is fine.)
As usual, it takes Speaker Boost, to sound not so feeble.
Everything works smoother, and where are those Google stratospheric balloons over my head, to connect not just to my feeble WiFi, but to some little hair of the Google Fiber.
Next step will be JB 4.3 or Key Lime Pie, that is, if I won't sell or trade this Epic before that.
Thanks to all XDA-Developers who still like this phone and do whatever they can for it to perform decently.
