I wrote about Leap Motion earlier in this blog. I didn't buy into 3D sensing unless it might be somehow useful in 3D modeling and fine surgery demos. I sent my application to develop more of a 2.5D framework for Leap Motion, so this "half-dimension" movement (Z-axis) may designate shallow depth that in turn associates with a pressure.
Here's what Painter Freestyle Beta using Leap Motion contraption looks like:
This is quite close to what I envisioned, but not exactly the same implementation.
1. Painter Freestyle? Where's Adobe CS for Windows? Gimp?
2. Elbow and arm holder is badly needed, as the shown set up is quite unpractical.
3. Leap Motion boasts precision of 0.01 mm, why smother it using a distant finger as a spray gun? Move your finger, or better sharp stylus closer to the screen, why can't you? Only in this manner you can beat Cintiq. Otherwise it's a toy for toddlers.
You can pre-order Leap Motion Controller for $80 from Leap Motion. It is expected to be shipped in May, and hopefully it will include better support from art apps. By "art" I understand these major drawing/painting programs, plus virtual sculpture apps (very good with recent spread of 3D printers) and music apps of Theremin style.
